About Terry Kleven

Terence Kleven has taught at Central College since 1996. He has published articles and book reviews in Old Testament studies, Greek and Arabic political philosophy, Middle Eastern politics and Islamic studies. He has received grants for research from the Bradley Foundation (Boston College and Harvard), the Yad/Hanadiv Barecha Foundation Fellowship (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), the National Endowment for the Humanities (American Research Center in Cairo and Cairo University) and the Fulbright Foundation and Earhart Foundation (Louis Pouzet Centre at the Oriental Library at the University of St. Joseph, Beirut, Lebanon). 

Kleven is the recipient of two Fulbright Scholarships; the first allowed him to study in Beirut, Lebanon, and the second in Amman, Jordan.

Kleven is also a part-time pastor in a local church and fills in for various area pastors.

Kleven has also taught at The University of Newfoundland and Labrador, Queen’s College in St. John’s Newfoundland (Anglican Seminary), Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass. and the Near East School of Theology in Beirut. He has taken students on study abroad trips to the Middle East on several occasions, and he frequently teaches classical Arabic and classical Hebrew.

Kleven is particularly interested in the training of intellectual leaders in political philosophy and its relation to Christianity, Islam and Judaism. His extra-curricular interests are music and sports, and he is, amongst other things, a certified and active USA Hockey coach.
